Society
of Human Resource Management
The
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the premier human
resources membership association, providing a myriad of national and
international member services that include education and information
services, networking, legislative action and representation, publications,
and chapter affiliation. Founded in 1948, SHRM now has over 150,000
members and is considered to be the global voice of the HR profession.
SHRM
has two major affiliate organizations: the Human Resource Certification
Institute (HRCI) and the SHRM Foundation. HRCI determines the HR body
of knowledge content through an extensive practice analysis process
and administers a certification exam to measure mastery of professional
standards and knowledge. The PHR (Professional in Human Resources)
and SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) designations are
the credentials of professional achievement for HR generalists. The
SHRM Foundation funds cutting-edge HR research and development, and
provides the tangible results of such endeavors through publications
and professional development opportunities.
SHRM
also maintains Professional Emphasis Groups, of which the Consultants'
Forum is one. All PRAXIS principals are charter members of that Forum,
established in 1995.
